Two hours of the best of recent Japanese animation. Guaranteed to have you laughing and crying in joy for the power of cinema.
5 CENTIMETRES PER SECOND
Beginning with the lyrical image of cherry blossoms falling at five centimetres a second, master film-maker Makoto Shinkai paints a breathtakingly vivid tableau of young love, desire, loss and hope. Told in three breathtaking chapters over 65 minutes.
“An exquisite, light-drenched tone poem… [by] the next Miyazaki” VARIETY
DEAD LEAVES
Retro and Panda awake on a dark street with no memories and a yen for psychedelic violence. Cue 50 minutes of frenetic chases, lewd behaviour, jailbreaks and trips to the moon. Nothing makes sense, but that’s hardly the point; this is virtuoso animation.
